The Edge Is the New Origin
Why rendering at the point of presence outperforms traditional origin-centric architectures.

Latency is now a product feature. As traffic globalizes, the distance between user and server has become the bottleneck that no amount of CPU scaling can fix.
Proximity beats scale
Edge computing collapses the round trip by executing logic inside Cloudflare's global network. With V8 isolates, cold starts are negligible and compute follows the request to the nearest location.
Every millisecond matters. The fastest server is the one already next to you.
Security through absence
By eliminating exposed origin servers, attack surfaces vanish. No PHP, no open ports, no database directly reachable over the public internet. D1 and R2 bindings remain private to the isolate.
Pragmatic architecture
The sweet spot is hybrid: prerender static shells, hydrate only what's interactive, and render dynamic fragments at the edge. This keeps HTML lean while still serving personalized content.
The result is a web that feels instant, costs less at scale, and is far harder to attack.
